Plugins we install (and some we uninstall)

All sites hosted by Performance Foundry have the following plugins installed:

  • Foundry Anvil: This plugin has a variety of tools to secure and speed up your site. See more about this here.
  • Kraken.io Image Optimizer
Allows you to optimize and resize new and existing WordPress image uploads through Kraken.io Image Optimizer’s API.
  • MailChannels
All outgoing email from your WordPress installation is sent through the MailChannels service.
  • Akismet
Checks your comments and contact form submissions against their global database of spam to prevent your site from publishing malicious content.

Other plugins we use, but uninstall after the site has been completely migrated:

  • WP Migrate DB (and addons)
We use it to export and sync your site's database and files, when a third party server doesn't allow other methods.
  • Sucuri Security – Auditing, Malware Scanner and Security Hardening.
We use some of its modules for security reasons.

To avoid conflict or redundancy with our services, we also uninstall plugins that offer the following features:

  • Cache
  • Backup
  • Security
  • Image compression

We will also uninstall plugins that we know are bad for your site's performance. In those cases we'll let you know with an email, usually before we uninstall it! However, if a plugin is causing serious performance issues, we may deactivate it before getting in touch with you.

Banned plugins

Some plugins are banned from our hosting environment, for a variety of reasons! Some are resource hogs, using more resources than they should. Others conflict with services we already offer (such as backup and caching).

Please don't install plugins that do the following:

  • Caching
  • Backup
  • Statistics (we recommend Google Analytics)
  • Database optimisation

Some popular plugins that are also banned are

  • broken-link-checker
  • delete-all-comments
  • google-sitemap-generator
  • wordpress-popular-posts
  • xml-sitemap-feed

Check out the complete current list here.

If you're unsure whether a plugin is banned, or want our advice about whether to install a plugin or not, send an email to support@performancefoundry.com. Please note that as each site is different, we can't always predict how plugins will behave on your site until you start using them!
